Background information on APPrO policy and procedures for fighting spam
The Association of Power Producers of Ontario (“APPrO' or “the Association') respects the intent of Canada's Anti Spam Law and has established policies and procedures for compliance. All APPrO staff are expected to assist in this objective and to inform the public as to APPrO’s ongoing commitment to respecting anti spam requirements.
APPrO's compliance plan
APPrO's database has been adapted to include data about CASL related requests. In particular each record now has a CASL opt-in field recording the recipient's most recently indicated preference as to receiving email messages from APPrO. Following the date of CASL enforcement, broadcast emails from APPrO will be sent only to those with a positive value in the CASL opt-in field, members, recent members, and recent business contacts. In addition, all broadcast emails sent from this date forward, until further notice, will include the following:
(i) A statement that the email is being sent by APPrO because it believes the information in it to be of interest to the recipient, and
(ii) APPrO contact information, including a mailing address, and one of: a telephone number with active response voicemail, an email address, or a web address
(iii) Instructions on how to unsubscribe
(iv) All requests for consent under CASL must include the purpose(s) for sending CEMs and notification of a right to withdraw the consent.
If it is not practical to include this information within the message, APPrO may provide the information on a web page via a readily accessible, no-cost link within the message or “CEM'. CEM is a term defined by CASL which stands for “commercial electronic message.'
APPrO will maintain a simple web page that allows people to request an opt-in or opt-out entry be made in their own record. The web page will not actually make the change but will generate an automated email to <
APPrO will be very selective about inclusion of names in its broadcast emails in future.
