A Generational Moment
Ontario is at a pivotal moment of electricity system expansion and renewal. Nuclear refurbishments and new builds, alongside investments in hydro, renewables, natural gas, and transmission, are strengthening the foundation of a reliable and secure power system. Electricity is once again a critical enabler of economic growth, with system adequacy and infrastructure development essential to supporting competitiveness, investment attraction, and long-term prosperity for Ontario and its residents.
Power generation facilities are significant contributors to Ontario’s economy as employers, investors, taxpayers, and partners to local municipalities and Indigenous communities. Continued investment in the sector is essential to meeting growing electricity demand and enabling system reliability, while supporting skilled trades, engineering, and manufacturing jobs across the domestic supply chain. This strengthens Ontario’s industrial capacity, retains critical talent and expertise, and enhances economic and energy system resilience in a changing global environment.
How We Advocate
Policy & Government Relations
We engage directly with the provincial and federal governments on policy, legislative, and regulatory frameworks that enable investment, competitiveness, and growth in the electricity generation sector. When major decisions affecting the generation sector are being made, APPrO is at the table.
Regulatory Processes
APPrO participates in regulatory processes administered by the Ontario Energy Board, and engages with the Independent Electricity System Operator, the Ontario Ministry of Energy and Mines, as well as several federal bodies, to support stable, predictable, and economically viable conditions for its members, through the advancement of fair market rules, appropriate cost recovery, regulatory clarity, and long-term sector sustainability, while mitigating undue risks and burdens. APPrO advocates for rules and outcomes that are fair, transparent, and workable for producers, while supporting efficiency and competition wherever market mechanisms are used.
Public Education & Awareness
An informed and engaged public supports better energy policy and investment decisions by improving transparency, strengthening confidence in regulatory processes, and enabling more durable, balanced outcomes. This helps create a more predictable environment for investment in reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply.
Ontario's Clean Energy Advantage
Ontario operates one of the cleanest electricity grids in the world. It is almost 90% emissions free and a leading asset in the fight against climate change. APPrO supports Ontario's Clean Energy Advantage and applauds Government’s ”All of the Above” approach to the energy transition, keeping energy affordable, reliable and sustainable while scaling the Made-in-Ontario generation that will power our province for decades to come.
