Letter from the President
Dear APPrO Delegates, Sponsors and Speakers,
I would like to welcome you again to APPrO 2008 - the Canadian Power Conference and Networking Centre. This year we celebrate 20 years of providing our delegates with valuable insights on the challenging issues and key questions of the day in the power generation business. Our mission remains the same - ensuring that power generators can operate successfully in Ontario’s market and compete successfully in Ontario’s generation procurement processes.
Investment in new generation in Ontario is on the upswing. Ontario has achieved significant success in procuring new generation and APPrO continues to make the voice of generators heard as critical choices are made in the development of the system.
While Ontario’s Integrated Power System Plan is currently before the Ontario Energy Board, much must still be done to define the specific plans, put the necessary investments in place, and ensure generation and transmission facilities siting permits and approvals take place. Furthermore, the direction and pace of evolution of Ontario’s electricity market remain unclear. In addition, climate change has become a major factor in electricity. At APPrO 2008 we will discuss, collaborate, learn and equip ourselves to pave the best way forward.
APPrO 2007 continued to break our attendance records and in order to ensure the comfort of our growing numbers of delegates we have expanded our meeting space at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for 2008. Our refocusing of our trade show - now the Power Networking Centre - has been a great success and we continue to work with our exhibitors and sponsors to ensure delegates are provided with plenty of networking areas and informative content. This year we plan to broaden the scope of the Power Networking Centre, with additional sessions on the cutting edge technologies and innovations - all inside the exhibit hall.
In honour of our Platinum Anniversary APPrO is proud to hold its first Zero Waste event. With the help of our Green Power sponsor, Toronto Hydro Energy Services, all electricity used at the conference will be green-sourced. The Zero Waste initiative with the Metro Toronto Convention Centre will endeavour to ensure that the production of the event will bear minimal waste and that any waste produced can be recycled.
APPrO welcomes you to the leading event of its kind in the industry. Take advantage of the opportunities to develop your business with our delegates – the key people in the power sector. Topics will be timely and speakers knowledgeable. Be sure to check our conference program online as we get closer to the date.
Mark your calendar now and ensure your place at the centre of the action with those who know and those who come to learn. Join us at APPrO 2008 on the 18th and 19th of November at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Yours sincerely,
David Butters, President
