Minister Bob Chiarelli to be the APPrO 2013 Banquet Keynote

APPrO is pleased to announce that the Hon. Bob Chiarelli, Ontario's Minister of Energy, will be the featured Banquet Keynote at the 25th Anniversary Canadian Power Conference, November 19 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

“Minister Chiarelli brings a real commitment and considerable personal experience to Ontario’s power sector, and we look forward to his participation in our Anniversary dinner,' said APPrO President & CEO Dave Butters.

In addition to having held the provincial cabinet portfolios of Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation, Mr. Chiarelli has direct experience in overseeing electric utilities and managing power system issues. He played a key role in the emergency rebuilding of large parts of the Ottawa grid following the ice storm of 1998. He oversaw the creation of Hydro Ottawa when it was built from the amalgamation of several smaller regional utilities. As the Mayor of Ottawa, the shareholder of Hydro Ottawa, the elected regional chair of Ottawa-Carleton, a cabinet minister and/or a director of the IESO, he has shared the experience of the blackout of the summer of 2003 and the many industry restructuring initiatives that have taken place since 1998.

He was appointed Minister of Transportation in October 2011, in addition to his position as the Minister of Infrastructure which he had held since August 2010.

Bob earned his law degree at the University of Ottawa. He has been a passionate community advocate all his life, actively involved in a range of public initiatives.
