David Butters appointed President of APPrO
APPrO, the Association of Power Producers of Ontario, is pleased to announce
the appointment of David Butters as its full-time President. With this decision,
APPrO is implementing a key part of its plan to broaden its scope and enhance
the leadership that it provides to its members in the electricity generation
field.
“With the addition of a full time President, we expect to significantly enhance
the responsiveness, quality and impact of our activities,” says APPrO’s current
President John Brace. “This will greatly improve our ability to serve our
members and to be an ever more effective voice for power producers in the
province.”
Mr. Butters brings a wealth of experience to the position. He comes to APPrO
from Hill & Knowlton in Toronto, where he was Vice President, Public
Affairs, and Director of their Canadian Energy Asset Group. He has also been
active in the sector as Secretariat to the Stakeholders Alliance for Competition
and Customer Choice. His professional background also includes work for Bruce
Power, TransAlta, AECL, Fortis, Toronto Hydro, the Association of Major Power
Consumers in Ontario, and as Chief of Staff to a federal cabinet minister.
Mr. Butters also has an extensive background in advertising and marketing
communications.
When Mr. Butters takes over as President, Mr. Brace will continue to serve
APPrO in a new role as Chairman of the Board. Jake Brooks will continue on
as Executive Director. Very importantly, the position of President becomes
a full-time position rather than a volunteer role as it had been in the past.
This new executive structure will provide continuity as well as greatly increasing
APPrO’s ability to provide leadership and direction on behalf of its members.
Mr. Butters’ appointment becomes effective on April 12, 2004.
Previously known as IPPSO, the Independent Power Producers’ Society of Ontario,
APPrO is a non-profit organization representing more than 100 companies involved
in the generation of electricity in Ontario, including generators and suppliers
of services, equipment and consulting services. APPrO members produce power
from co-generation, hydro-electric, gas, coal, nuclear, wind energy, waste
wood and other sources. APPrO’s members currently produce over 95% of the
electricity made in Ontario.
