APPrO statement on the announcement of an agreement between Bruce Power and the OPA

Bruce Power Announcement Positive for Ontario, Power Producers Say

TORONTO, October 17, 2005 – Ontario's power producers welcomed today's announcement that an agreement has been reached with the Ontario Power Authority and Bruce Power to launch a $4.25 billion investment program to secure the long-term future of the Bruce Power site.

"APPrO has long argued that under the right circumstances generators are more than prepared to take on appropriate development and operational risks and make the very significant investments required to refurbish, rebuild, or replace 25,000 megawatts of power generation infrastructure in Ontario over the next fifteen years," said APPrO President, Dave Butters.

"Today's announcement shows that generators can bring not only capital resources, but also expertise, efficiency, and risk sharing to ensure
taxpayers do not shoulder all the burdens - and risks - of investment in essential infrastructure to secure an environmentally and economically sustainable energy future for Ontario", Butters added.

The Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO) is a non-profit organization representing more than 100 companies involved in the generation of electricity in Ontario, including generators and suppliers of services, equipment and consulting services. APPrO members produce power from co-generation, hydro-electric, gas, coal, nuclear, wind energy, waste wood and other sources. APPrO's members currently produce over 95% of the electricity made in Ontario.
